Bernhard Steurenthal was born in 1954 in Wupperthal, where he spent his childhood and completed an apprenticeship as a window dresser. In 1973, after passing a special aptitude examination, he began his painting studies at the Folkwang School in Essen, which he completed in 1978 with a degree.
Since 1984, Bernhard Steurenthal has lived and worked alternately in Berlin and in Italy. The early years were spent in Tuscany in Loro Ciuffenna. From 2000 he moved to Lazio to the town of Bolsena, where he lets the nuances of light influence his painting.
Numerous exhibitions at home and abroad document his ongoing activity as an artist. His works are in many private and public collections and hang, among others, in the Chancellery, in the Willy Brandt House, and in the Max Planck Institute for Educational Research in Berlin.
His works are also in the public collections of the Heinrich Hertz Institute, Deutsche Bank, and Artothek NBK Berlin.
Since 2011, Bernhard Steurenthal has regularly presented his works in China/Chengdu under the patronage of the German Consulate and the organization of Chinaconception Berlin.
