Description from the seller

Alexandre Colin (Paris, 1798 - 1875)
The Procession
Oil on canvas, 50 x 61 cm
With frame, 62 x 72 cm
Signed and dated "A. Colin 1840"

Alexandre-Marie Colin (1798–1875) was a French painter and lithographer, a central figure of Romanticism and close friend of masters such as Eugène Delacroix and Richard Parkes Bonington. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Girodet-Trioson, Colin stood out for a vibrant style and great thematic versatility. His body of work ranges from historical and literary subjects — often inspired by Shakespeare, Byron and Victor Hugo — to genre scenes and exotic landscapes. He regularly participated in the Paris Salon, receiving numerous recognitions and prestigious commissions, including decorations for important Parisian churches. In addition to oil painting, he was an adept watercolorist and lithographer, helping to spread the taste for Romantic aesthetics throughout Europe. His ability to capture dynamism and emotion made him one of the most representative artists of his time, leaving a legacy that deeply influenced the next generation.

The frame is provided as a gift, therefore it cannot be a reason for return or complaint.

For paintings purchased abroad: after payment, the export license (ALC) procedure will be initiated. All antiques sent abroad from Italy require this document, issued by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The process may take from 3 to 5 weeks from the request, so as soon as we have the document the painting will be shipped.
