Sao Paulo by Mimmo Jodice, signed on the title page, 1st edition hardcover in Italian and English, 104 pages, 31 × 23.5 cm, published by Skira (Geneva, Milan), with dust jacket, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally dedicaced and signed edition on the title page by Mimmo Jodice (1934 - 2025), a unique original edition and virtually unavailable on the internet in a signed copy, extremely rare and almost unobtainable in an unsigned copy. 104 pages and nearly 70 black-and-white photographs printed full page or double-page for some. Sturdy black hardcover with the title printed on the spine and an illustrated dust jacket. In excellent condition.
It was the Pirelli company, the automotive tire manufacturer, that initiated this photographic commission in Sao Paulo, and Mimmo Jodice was happy to photograph the different aspects of the city with his large-format camera and then make the prints himself;
Mimmo Jodice is one of the most prestigious Italian photographers of the 20th century and has gained international recognition around the world. A self-taught photographer born in 1934 in Naples, he began his artistic activity in the mid-1960s with visual experimentation and carried out research on image cuts and collages, then in the 1970s moved toward social critique related to the miserable living conditions of the Naples population, a lively and popular city, and toward the 1980s toward a silent evocation of the metaphysical landscape and Mediterranean archaeology, with a creative language that reflects on time, light, and the very act of seeing. In 1983-1984 Mimmo Jodice also participated in the project “Viaggio in Italia” with Luigi Ghirri and about a dozen other emerging Italian photographers of the time such as Guido Guidi, Mario Cresci, Olivo Barbieri, Vittore Fossati. Mimmo Jodice has presented his work in France on several occasions, notably within the framework of the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie d'Arles, as well as during a retrospective at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris in 2010, which led to the publication of an important catalog.
This is a book from my personal collection, in excellent condition with a tiny dent at one corner of the binding (see photo), kept with the greatest care.
