Description from the seller

Purchased in Cremona from a priest who kept it as an almoner. From examining the object it is clear that the upper boss was added later, because on the back is stamped the image of an ancient Roman. The object, originally profane, was thus transformed into a religious object. Evidently the object originally belonged to a noble family.
