The artist speaks:
Jinks Kunst: The revelation of urban stencil art
Born in 1976, Jinks Kunst is a renowned Franco-Swiss artist, whose creative path is rooted in the effervescence of the hip-hop and skate cultures of the ’90s. His works, often life-size, draw inspiration from a deep analysis of current events, politics, literature, but also urban cultures and the animal world. A nomadic artist, a citizen of the world. Since 2008, he has embarked on an artistic signature journey through the theft of street signs, initially in Nantes, then worldwide (over 40 countries). His stencils, posters and stickers adorn walls in countries around the world. Gaining recognition, he exhibits in France and abroad; his works are part of leading private collections and are regularly reproduced in specialist street art publications. In 2021, he was selected as one of 76 finalists for the prestigious Prix du graffiti et du street art in Paris. Among his most significant projects are: the creation of a fresco in the Sidi Moumen slum in Casablanca, depicting a scene of Moroccan life. A collaboration on the Prasad project in Nepal, culminating in a large mural in homage to Mahabir Pun, a pioneer of connectivity in the Himalayas. The organization of the volunteer project “Djiguene & Goor” across five West African countries. He has participated in notable exhibitions, including Strokar in Brussels and Studio 49 in Geneva, alongside legends such as Andy Warhol, Banksy and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The creation of a piece honoring the film 'Les Pépites' in Phnom Penh, which captured the director's attention. The organization of the volunteer project “Alibi” in 2019 in refugee camps in Iraqi Kurdistan and Lebanon. Jinks Kunst has produced several hundred stencils, diverted more than a thousand street signs, and customized dozens of skateboards and vinyl records. His art, simultaneously aesthetic and engaged, is a constant invitation to reflect on our world.
