Description from the seller
Naples-style Mid-17th Century Monetiere Comoncino in Rosewood with Painted Panels
Important Neapolitan comoncino monetiere from the mid-1600s, made of rosewood with a solid structure and compact proportions. The front features six drawers arranged in three tiers, each enriched with finely painted panels depicting figurative scenes in a classical taste, portraying landscapes and mythological figures, executed with refined brushwork and a rich painterly sensibility.
The molded and ebonized frames surround the painted reserves, creating an elegant color contrast with the wooden essence of the piece. The locks and hardware are contemporary to the piece, a notable element that confirms its historical authenticity.
The top is surmounted by a marble slab not contemporaneous with the furniture, inserted at a later date, which harmoniously integrates with the whole without altering its antique charm.
The sides display a splendid veneer of rosewood, highly visible, while the base rests on turned feet in a seventeenth-century style that give the structure both momentum and solidity.
A piece of great charm and rarity, ideal for prestigious settings, art collections, or high-level antiquarian contexts.
Dimensions:
Height: 80 cm
Width: 70 cm
Depth: 40 cm
