Description from the seller

Rarest 52-card fortune-telling Tarot-like game of Destiny dating from 1820–1840.
It is a fortune-telling and encyclopedic card game, known as: The Game of Destiny (or the Game of Mythological, Historical and Astronomical Cards).
Country: France Likely place of origin: Paris
Publisher / card maker: in the tradition of Parisian card makers (type B. P. Grimaud / Deroy / Delarue, or successors)
Intended use: a divinatory and moral game, but also educational
This is not a Tarot, but a 53-card game enriched with symbolic scenes. I think the deck should comprise 54 cards.
First half of the 19th century, most likely: 1820–1840
Dress style: Empire / Restoration
Lithographed print
Thick cardboard, rounded corners 130 x 90 mm; some have flaws; plan for minor restoration
Stylized constellations (a fashion trend after 1800)
Simultaneous presence of:
- Moral scenes (judgment, imprisonment, court)
- Mythological scenes (mermaids, antiquity)
- Botany, architecture, astronomy
Alphabet letters (E, F, G, I, S, T, Z), typical of the Game of Destiny
The game was used to look into the future, often with an explanatory booklet today lost.
Rare testimony of 19th-century popular divinatory culture.
