Description from the seller
Edwardian walking cane with silver collar – London ca.1910 – stag antler handle – engraved – bamboo shaft
A distinctive Edwardian walking cane, featuring a natural stag antler handle paired with an elegantly shaped and engraved solid silver collar, hallmarked in London in ca.1910 and bearing the lion passant, confirming the sterling silver standard.
The organically formed antler handle displays beautiful natural texture and patina, making each piece entirely unique. The contrast between the warm tones of the antler and the finely worked silver mount creates a particularly appealing and characterful aesthetic.
The silver collar is attractively shaped and decorated with engraved detail, including a monogram, adding a personal historical touch and enhancing the overall refinement of the piece. The shaft is crafted from bamboo, prized for its strength and lightness, and widely used in quality walking canes of the period.
Such canes were valued not only for their practicality but also for their individuality, often chosen by gentlemen seeking something more distinctive than standard examples. Now over 110 years old, this is a genuine Edwardian antique with strong character and collectable appeal.
In good antique condition, with an attractive patina. The silver mount shows age-related wear, including surface marks and minor imperfections. The antler handle shows natural texture and wear consistent with age. The bamboo shaft shows light wear and surface marks. The ferrule is no longer present (common for pieces of this age).
Overall structurally sound and well preserved.
