Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, rose to prominence in 2009 with his One Dollar sculptures, ranking among the top ten sculptors under 30 according to Artprice that same year. In 2012, New York publication Farameh named him as one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its book FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, at the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly congratulated Karl on his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture, One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.

Karl’s artistic journey began at age 7 with collages, spurred by his encounter with sculptor César Baldaccini. He later turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro while remaining passionate about collages. Artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with collages. In 2003, Karl prepared his first exhibition in Paris, which led to his first solo show in 2006 at Isy Brachot Gallery in Brussels. In 2008, he returned to Paris with an exhibition blending paintings, sculptures, and video elements at the Espace Pierre Cardin.

Karl especially enjoys unveiling his works at international exhibitions. In 2011, he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art Gallery at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One creation. The following year, he presented his One Dollar works on the theme “In God We Trust” at Artco France Gallery. His 2016 solo exhibition at Atrium Gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his works before the international press.

In 2010, he was chosen to represent Deauville at the Horsemania world championship in Lexington, where he created a sculpture of a horse dedicated to the event. In 2012, he offered Deauville his Cryptogram One sculpture, a symbolic bronze of peace and love, located at the city entrance. That same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he built a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Film Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011, signed by personalities such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey.

The artist rose to prominence in 2009 with his “One Dollar” sculptures, which earned him a place among Artprice’s top ten sculptors under 30 worldwide.

In 2017, he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Drawing inspiration from “Cryptogram One,” he created a trophy in polished-mirror-finish aluminum, bearing messages such as “Hope,” “7th Art,” and “Deauville” on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse received a commission to create a new trophy inspired by a well-known symbol of Deauville: the design of the barriers that separate the cabanas on the Planches.

In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati wrapped in white plastic and a statue of Jesus surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled at Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017, he created the Deauville American Film Festival Trophy, drawing on his Cryptogram One work and adding messages such as “Hope” and “7th Art” on the trophies.
