Banda statue from the DR Congo ( Ubangi region in the northern Congo). Purchased with a certificate from the gallery owner (included with the statue). Purchased as a Zande statue but it turns out to be a Banda statue. For reference see literature: Ubangi/Zande - Bernard De Grunne/Jan-Lodewijk Grootaers and Ubangi - Jan-Lodewijk Grootaers.

Estimated age: 1st half of the 20th century.

This beautiful statue is rare. It stands 34 cm tall and has a lovely dark patina from use. Eyes made of beads, metal earrings, and the statue has all the characteristics of a Banda statue. Probably originating from the workshop of the master of Mobaye (see Ubangi - De Grunne/Grootaers for similar statues by the master of Mobaye). Age cracks (including on the side of the head). The statue is otherwise in very good condition.

Banda beeld afkomstig uit DR Congo (Ubangi regio in het Noorden van Congo). Aangekocht met certificaat van de galeriehouder (wordt meegeleverd met het beeld). Geschatte leeftijd: 1ste helft 20ste eeuw.

Dit prachtig beeld is zeldzaam. Het is 34 cm hoog en heeft een mooi donker gebruikspatina. Ogen van kraaltjes, metalen oorringen en het beeld heeft alle eigenschappen van een Banda beeld. Waarschijnlijk afkomstig uit het atelier van de meester van Mobaye (zie Ubangi - De Grunne/Grootaers voor gelijkaardige beelden van de meester van Mobaye). Ouderdomsscheurtjes (onder andere aan de zijkant van het hoofd). Het beeld is voor de rest in heel goede staat.
