AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Signed copy on the title page by Raymond Depardon (born in 1942), the original edition unavailable in signed copies online and extremely rare in unsigned copies. About 260 pages and 218 full-page black-and-white photographs. The book bears the subtitle "La Folie recluse, Secluded Madness, La Follia reclusa". The photographic sequences are accompanied by typed notes and comments by Raymond Depardon, published in French, English and Italian. Plastic rubberized binding, (no dust jacket as issued). Book in excellent condition, practically like new.

Cinematographic-style layout (you can also notice at the bottom of the cover and on some pages the imitation of film perforation).

The photographs in this book were taken from 1977 to 1981 in Italy in psychiatric hospitals (manicomio) in the cities of Trieste, Venice, Naples, Arezzo and Turin. Raymond Depardon met Franco Basaglia, leader of alternative psychiatry and director of the Trieste psychiatric hospital, who had dismantled the hospital and placed the most able patients in apartments in the heart of the city. "The first day, when I arrived by car at the Trieste psychiatric hospital, there was no guard; the doors were open…".

A book from my personal collection in excellent condition, practically like new, kept with the greatest care. Protected shipping with reinforced packaging and insured international tracking. In case of multiple purchases, possible grouped shipping with refund of any excess postage paid via PayPal.
