Marc Riboud signed first edition hardcover of Algérie indépendante, 2009, 200 pages, French and Arabic texts, published by Le bec en l'air, Marseille.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed edition on the title page by Marc Riboud (1923–2016), unique and unattainable as a signed copy. 200 pages and 92 black-and-white photographs printed full-page, plate and double-page, captions for the photographs and date of realization with miniature reproductions at the end of the book, texts in French and Arabic by Seloua Luste Boulbina and Malek Alloula, foreword by Jean Daniel. In excellent condition, practically like new.
Marc Riboud went to Algeria for the first time in 1960 to cover the week of barricades erected by supporters of French Algeria. He returned there regularly and in 1962 photographed the decisive moments of the Algerian people’s path to independence. Rarely shown in the French press of the time, these images resurface in this remarkable book.
Born near Lyon, Marc Riboud participated in the anti-Nazi resistance fights in the Vercors in 1944. From 1945 to 1948, he studied engineering at the Ecole Centrale de Lyon and worked in a factory, then decided to devote himself to photography. In 1953 he gained his first publication in Life magazine for his photograph of a painter on the Eiffel Tower which would remain famous. At the invitation of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa, he joined the Magnum agency. This marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career of more than 50 years.
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition (practically like new), kept with the greatest care. Very efficient protected shipping and international tracked postal service guaranteed. In case of multiple purchases, there is the possibility of grouped shipping with a refund of any excess postage paid via Paypal.
