Libro d'Ore, an Italian original hardback edited by U. Riva and published by Scripta Arte, comprises 250 pages in a 40 × 30 cm format, is a limited, illustrated and special print edition with author and illustrator signatures and inscriptions, and comes with a slipcase.
Description from the seller
The edition comprises twenty-nine Canticles of the Psalter in the poetic translation by David Maria Turoldo, seven Canticles of the New Testament and the selected Ave Maria by Monsignor Gianfranco Ravasi, author of the general introduction and the comments on the texts, eighteen color plates out of the text, thirty-seven initial capitals and a series of line drawings executed exclusively by Master Ugo Riva. Just as the Breviary represents, for religious people, the book of prayers, so the Book of Hours constitutes for laypeople the text on which to meditate and pray. The Book of Hours now realized by ART’E’ constitutes a unique work because it manages to couple with contemporary art an ancient tradition; it is, precisely, “an attempt to freely recreate the ancient genre, relying exclusively on the canonical Jewish-Christian prayers in the highest and most theological sense of the term.
On the cover of the Volume has been placed a specimen of the Opera Pater Noster by Ugo Riva, an original bas-relief work in a special metal alloy, format 132×152 mm, cast, covered in 24-carat gold and patinated with a special manual process at the Fonderia Artistica Farbel of Brescia, in a limited edition. The 18 plates out of the text are printed by lithoscreen technique on fine BFK Rives 100% cotton paper, weight 220 g/m². Binding: stitching, binding and the Volume cover, in jet-black lambskin tanned and finished by hand, with four raised bands, four flyleaves on the spine and inscriptions in gold, have been produced according to an ancient manual method by the Bookbindery “l’Arte del Libro” of Todi.
The Volume Libro d'Ore with illustrations by Ugo Riva has been produced in a worldwide exclusive edition in a limited run.
