Description from the seller

✦ WORLD SHIPPING WITHIN EU ✦ RATED EXCELLENT

A splendid oil on panel still life depicting grapes, peaches and a melon arranged beside a Roemer glass and metal jug, painted with a refined sense of light and texture. This accomplished composition demonstrates a sensitive handling of colour, reflections and surface, with the fruit and tableware rendered in warm tones against a calm, neutral background.

This charming work is by Hetty Broedelet-Henkes, a Dutch painter best known for her refined still lifes of flowers and fruit. Born Hester Henkes in Delfshaven, she studied at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague and later became a member of the artists’ societies Pulchri Studio and Schilderessenvereniging ODIS. Her work was included in the important 1939 exhibition Onze Kunst van Heden at the Rijksmuseum.

Broedelet-Henkes worked within the circle of Dutch painters who continued the strong national tradition of still-life painting in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Her work can be placed alongside that of contemporaries such as Floris Verster, Lizzy Ansingh and Betsy Westendorp-Osieck—artists who combined careful observation with a painterly, atmospheric approach to everyday subjects.

A great addition to any art collection..
