Mercedes‑Benz 280 SE 3,5 from 1971 with automatic transmission and LPG, 200 HP, chassis 10805712003867, located in the Netherlands with Dutch registration papers and valid MOT, service book present, mileage 11,053 km, matching colours, CoC available on request, interior and exterior described as good to very good with minor blemishes.
Description from the seller
Bodywork & Paintwork:
The body of the car is in very good condition and there is no trace of previously repaired serious damage. The seam between the door and the right fender is not even across its full height. All other body seams run as they should.
Door seals are due for replacement. (new door seals are available)
Chrome work on the car is in good and original condition.
The windows are clearly transparent all around and the window operation functions. The window seals are in neat condition.
Furthermore, there is nothing known about welding work and no welding work is needed on the car.
Right rear has the door and rear fender replaced after an accident by a repairer.
The chassis is in good condition. There is no damage to the floor panel, the inner bottom side and the box beams are fine.
Here and there there is some rust formation and/or blisters. On the left and right front door at the threshold there is rust formation. This deserves attention.
Technical:
The car runs, shifts and brakes properly. The powerful 200hp V8 starts well and runs smoothly when cold as well as when at operating temperature.
On LPG the car runs well. On petrol the engine runs less well/not well. Early ignition needs attention as does the injection.
In 2024 the car passed a new APK (Dutch periodic technical inspection) and the four tires were replaced.
In 2023 the car was equipped with a new battery.
In 2020 the LPG system was checked and repaired.
In 2019: new injectors
In 2018: electronic ignition, front brake caliper revision
In 2017: full stainless steel exhaust, cylinder head revision, new alternator, fuel pump, brake discs, coil.
Sunroof revision and paintwork
In 2012 gearbox revision
In 2011 replaced power steering pump
All documentation is present with the car.
Interior:
The brown upholstery of the front seats and back bench is in very good condition and there are no damages. The driver's seat adjustment also functions properly.
All interior panels are present and in good condition with one exception: a small drying crack on a window strip here and there.
The carpet set is original and in neat condition.
The headliner is original and in neat condition. A small area at the rear window is coming loose.
Dashboard is in good condition. The top panel shows some drying cracks. The clock no longer functions.
The steering wheel shows some drying cracks. (black steering wheel is also available)
For this Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3,5 a folder with maintenance records is present. It shows that the car has been professionally maintained. Both the transmission and the cylinder heads have been rebuilt. The read mileage of 11,053 in the documents is very likely 111,053 km (ANWB Purchase Inspection).
Conclusion:
The Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3,5 is in good, partially restored condition. Both the exterior and the underbody present a positive picture. Appraisal 2023 condition 3+
Of course, it is a car from 1971 and has withstood 55 years of time. The car has had the necessary attention and will certainly require further endurance in the future.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
