Description from the seller
Lyre-Style Tilting Dressing Mirror - Mahogany/Walnut Wood - Late 19th / Early 20th Century
DESCRIPTION
In auction, an example of a dressing mirror (Toilet Mirror) with a late-Victorian/Umbertine taste. A classic piece of furniture, ideal to complete period chest of drawers or to insert as a contrasting element in contemporary interiors.
Technical Details and Features:
Structure: The outer uprights feature an S-shaped moulding (lyre-shaped) that supports the tilting mirror. The upper cornice is finished with an engraved frieze.
Base: "Platform" model with two side drawers for accessories, complete with original turned wooden knobs.
Mirror: Glass contemporaneous with the production period. It shows the characteristic surface oxidation ("bloom"), distributed unevenly—a refined detail that attests to its antiquity and integrity.
Essence: Made of solid wood (mahogany or dark walnut) with preserved natural patina.
Condition:
The piece presents good conservation condition. Structurally solid, with drawers functioning perfectly. It shows signs of wear and light superficial scratches consistent with the piece’s age, which give it character without compromising its aesthetics. The back retains the original rough-sawn wooden boards.
Dimensions:
Height: 77 cm
Base width: 66 cm
Depth: 21 cm
Mirror dimensions: 54 x 38.5 x 3 cm
