Bernhard Hertz, Stockholm pocket watch stand dating to the 1920s–1930s, silver-plated with a rich patina and marked GABH NS on the cradle, in working condition with some surface wear, height 14 cm and base diameter 10.5 cm.
Description from the seller
A beautiful antique pocket watch stand made by Bernhard Hertz Aktiebolag (GABH), Stockholm, Sweden, dating to the 1920s–1930s.
This is a piece with real character, the kind of object that used to sit on a gentleman's desk or bedside table, holding his watch through the night so the face was always visible.
The base is a round double-beaded-edge tray rising up into a twisted, branch-like stem decorated with cast leaves. From there, the stem opens into an ornate open-work support with scrolling curves and foliate details on both sides, holding the round watch cradle above.
The cradle itself has a beaded border all the way around, and at the very top sits a decorative crown piece with scrollwork and a small hook.
The whole piece has a wonderful look. The silver plating has aged to a rich, deep patina, and the raised decorative elements show the golden metal underneath, creating a wonderful contrast.
The base is engraved with the name Edvin, the previous owner.
Marked on the back of the cradle with GABH (Bernhard Hertz Aktiebolag, Stockholm), the BH maker's mark within a shield, and NS indicating its silver-plated.
The condition is lovely overall. Rich natural patina throughout, some surface wear to the silver plating as described above. No breaks or repairs. Looks very nice overall.
Height: 14 cm
Base diameter: 10.5 cm
Please take a good look at the photos, which are an integral part of the description.
This lot will be carefully packed, so it will get to its new owner exactly as it should.
