The image shows a work by Franco Martinengo (1910–2001), a renowned automotive designer and painter from Turin who held the role of director of the styling center at Pininfarina for about twenty years.
The Work:
The drawing, signed at the bottom right and numbered "26/99", is a lithograph depicting a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa. The style is typical of Martinengo: dynamic and instinctive, characterized by bold black strokes that convey the sense of speed and movement typical of his artistic research defined as "art in motion".
Who was Franco Martinengo?
Career in Design: He began working at Stabilimenti Farina in 1928, later becoming its director. In 1952 he moved to Carrozzeria Pininfarina, where he supervised the birth of iconic models such as the Fiat Dino Spider and the Alfa Romeo Duetto.
Artistic Activity: As a painter, he used several techniques including oil, watercolor and etching. His works are often devoted to the world of engines, merging his technical design precision with a strong chromatic passion.
Curiosity: He was a first cousin of Pope Francis.
