Description from the seller
Edmée Masson (1882–?) Swiss Alpine Chalet, probably Gstaad
Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1907
Dimensions:
– Canvas: 46 × 33 cm
– With frame: 51 × 56 cm
Painted in 1907 by the Swiss painter Edmée Masson, active between Geneva and Paris in the early 20th century. The work depicts a typical Alpine chalet set in a green and bright mountain landscape, with a road winding softly toward the building and guiding the eye toward the surrounding peaks.
The scene, in terms of architecture and atmosphere, is very likely attributable to the Bernese Oberland area, and in particular the Gstaad region, already famous at the time for its traditional chalets and early tourist development. The building features characteristic regional traits: a wide wooden facade, decorative balconies, and a sturdy structure, harmoniously integrated into the landscape.
The painting is lively and textured, with a luminous palette dominated by greens and warm wood tones, conveying an authentic and poetic image of early 20th-century Swiss Alpine life, still far from mass tourism. The brushwork, free and immediate, aligns with the Post-Impressionist tradition with a naturalistic sensibility.
Signature and date “Edmée Masson 1907” in the lower left.
Present identification label on the reverse.
Good overall condition.
Shipping
The work will be packed with maximum care using professional materials and sent with a tracking code.
Postal shipping is the most economical solution, but not the most suitable for artworks: we cannot guarantee the absence of damage during transport, especially for works on original supports.
For shipments outside Switzerland (especially the EU), transit times may be longer and customs or import charges may be applied to the buyer.
In case of return of the lot (e.g., due to non-payment of taxes or customs issues), return shipping and re-shipment costs will be borne by the buyer.
Hand pickup in Geneva strongly recommended.
On request, a quote can be obtained through a specialized art carrier.
