Niagara by Alec Soth is a signed first edition hardback publication by Steidl (2006), in English, 144 pages, 32 × 28 cm, a photography monograph in as new condition.
Description from the seller
In the follow-up to his first critically acclaimed monograph, Sleeping by the Mississippi,
Alec Soth turned to another iconic body of water, Niagara Falls. As with his photographs of the
Mississippi, Soth’s images of Niagara speak less about natural wonders than about human desire.
“I went to Niagara for the same reason honeymooners and suicide jumpers go,” says Soth.
“The relentless thunder of the falls simply calls for great passion.” Working over the course of two
years on both the American and Canadian sides of the falls with an 8×10 large-format camera,
the photographs are rigorously composed and richly detailed. Soth portrays honeymooners and
naked lovers, motel parking lots, and pawnshop wedding rings. Throughout the book,
he has interspersed a number of love letters from the subjects he photographed.
