Flipje truck mascot, designed by Philip van Alfen in the Netherlands in the 1950s, made of hard plastic, 55 cm high, 36 cm wide and 20 cm deep, original/official, in fair condition with heavy use and a possible small part missing, mounted on a solid oak presentation block.
Description from the seller
Rare and original Flipje truck mascot from the Netherlands, an iconic piece of advertising history from the jam factory De Betuwe in Tiel.
Flipje was designed in 1935 by Philip van Alfen and grew into one of the best-known Dutch advertising mascots. The cheerful little man with his distinctive raspberry belly stood as a symbol for the Betuwe and its fruit products. This edition was used as a truck mascot, mounted on the bumper or roof of transport vehicles that traveled the country.
The mascot can be seen as the Dutch counterpart to the Michelin Man, and was at the time a recognizable and beloved sight on the road.
This example is made of sturdy hard plastic and constitutes an authentic old piece. The figure shows signs of use appropriate to long outdoor exposure (weather and wind), including light wear and a small crack, but is nonetheless in good and presentable condition. The colors are still strikingly bright.
The object is currently mounted on a solid oak block for display, but can be easily removed if desired.
A special collector’s item for enthusiasts of:
• Dutch advertising and branding
• Transport and truck memorabilia
• Flipje / De Betuwe / Tiel history
Also very suitable as a decorative piece in a man cave, shop, or vintage interior.
