This project began after the sudden death of my mother. I had been photographing for about fifteen years and I made a selection of shots from that period, concerning her of course, but also everything that mattered to me: my relationships, my brother, my friends, my son and the places where I have lived, mainly in the Netherlands and in France. Heartbeat has become a visual poem where happiness and sadness intertwine.
