Des Oiseaux is an English first edition hardcover by Sebastião Salgado, signed on the front matter, published by Atelier EXB, 108 pages, 26.5 × 21 cm, covering photography and nature.
Description from the seller
Rare original edition in English, signed on the half-title page by Sebastião Salgado (1944 - 2025). 110 pages and 48 black-and-white photographs, most printed as double-page spreads, with text by the writer Eric Orsenna and an interview of Sebastião Salgado conducted by Philippe Séclier. Very beautiful toiled binding with a photograph and a title label pasted on the cover. In excellent condition, practically like new.
Sebastião Salgado photographs birds from the ends of the world and immerses us in a powerfully lyrical nature that reveals an original world. A nature that is, however, threatened by climate change, which leads to the disappearance of certain species, as Sebastião Salgado notes in his interview.
Sebastião Salgado joined Magnum in 1979 and remained until 1994, when he left Magnum to found his own agency Amazonas with his wife. Salgado has been awarded numerous photography prizes, including the prestigious Eugene W. Smith Award for Humanistic Photography in 1982.
For forty years, the photographer Sebastião Salgado has traveled the continents to capture on film the dignity of human silhouettes and faces along the traces of a humanity in flux, from the open-pit mines of Brazil, where the so-called ant-men seem to perform a Herculean labor, to the dried-up great lakes of West Africa, where gaunt women and children lack water.
If he has borne witness to major events that have marked our recent history: international conflicts, famine, the atrocities of wars, exodus, it is to show that through the most extreme situations the grandeur and dignity of humanity prevail.
In excellent condition, practically like new. Books from my personal collection kept with the utmost care. Protected shipping with reinforced packaging and insured international tracking. In case of multiple purchases, possibility of grouped shipping with refund of any excess postage paid via Paypal.
