Handbook by Elliott Erwitt, a signed English-language hardcover 1st edition of 128 pages with 94 black-and-white photographs, published by The Quanttuck Lane Press, New York in 2003, in excellent condition with dust jacket.
Description from the seller
Rare, signed copy on the title page by Eliott Erwitt (1928 - 2023). 128 pages and 94 black-and-white photographs, introductory English text by Charles Flowers. Very beautiful red cloth binding with the title impressed in relief in gold lettering on the spine and illustrated dust jacket. Excellent condition.
This book, whose title plays on words, is entirely dedicated to highlighting the playful hand movements in human exchanges. Erwitt's photographs of hands are characterful, sensitive, and they speak to us of life in motion, guided or articulated by gesture. Although his humor is subtle and his images witty in their composition, his work can be summed up as a love of humanity and the beauty of life in its simplest form." Charles Flowers.
Son of Russian émigrés, Elliott Erwitt was born in 1928 in Paris and grew up in Italy and France before his family emigrated to the United States in 1939. Elliott Erwitt attended high school while working in a commercial photographic laboratory where he developed prints. In 1949, he returned to Europe where he traveled and began his professional career. In 1953, Elliott Erwitt, sponsored by Robert Capa, became a member of Magnum Photos. He worked for Life magazine and took part in the renowned The Family of Man exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in 1955, and for more than fifty years his books, documentary photography, illustrations, and advertisements have appeared in publications around the world where his exhibitions have also enjoyed great success.
