Description from the seller
Copy of the original French-language edition signed on the frontispiece page by Martin Parr (1952-2025), unique and unavailable as a signed copy online. 128 pages and 60 color photographs. Text in French by Nicholas Barker. Solid hardcover binding with illustrated cover and spine. In excellent condition.
The original English-language edition was published in 1992 with the subtitle: "a portrait of the nation's tastes" ("the portrait of a nation's tastes"), and it took until Martin Parr achieved international fame for this French edition, without a subtitle, to be published.
This book takes us into the heart of English interiors, and Parr's incisive look at British life and mores examines the rise of the middle classes, born from the ultraliberal decade of the 1980s. His analysis of the rather particular tastes of his compatriots, reflections of a whole society, plunges us into everyday life, at once ironic and tender. "Instructive and hilarious" according to the French daily Le Monde. It is a book about personal tastes within British households. Inspired by the cult television series, it analyzes perceptions of good and bad taste, exploring the extraordinary range of emotions that underlie domestic choices. Each photograph is accompanied by commentary from the people who inhabit and arrange these homes.
Book from my personal collection in excellent condition; the frontispiece page bears just a small crease in the upper right corner caused by Martin Parr at the moment of signing (author's crease!), book kept with the greatest care. Protected shipping with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international tracking. In case of multiple purchases, possibility of grouped shipping with reimbursement of any overpaid postage fees via PayPal. (2.4 kg excluding packaging).
