Description from the seller
PEGASO COMET 3140 4x4 (1980)
GENERAL
This Pegaso Comet 4x4, model 3140 from the year 1980, is an exceptional piece of Spanish industrial heritage. The Comet was the pillar of transportation recovery in Spain, designed under the technical direction of Wifredo Ricart to offer robustness and versatility. This specific 4x4 version is extremely difficult to find today, especially in such solid preserved condition. The vehicle retains its original tanker truck configuration, including the operating pump system. During that era, Pegaso was the main supplier for strategic logistical fleets, including units serving the Cepsa network, which makes this model an ideal candidate to be preserved as a historic vehicle due to its rarity and relevance in the history of the national automotive industry.
CARROCERÍA Y PINTURA
The exterior assembly, covering both the cab and the tanker, is in very good overall condition. The paint retains a notable presence for its age, highlighting that the tanker still bears Cepsa’s original logo. It presents two specific details to consider for a complete aesthetic restoration: a light scratch of about 5 centimeters on the front left bumper and a localized dent on the left rear fender. Apart from these points, the structure remains intact and well preserved, reflecting a care superior to what these working vehicles typically receive.
MECÁNICA
In mechanical terms, the truck stands out for its characteristic reliability. The 6,550 cc diesel engine with 135 HP starts perfectly, offering the unmistakable, rounded and powerful sound of Pegaso engines from that era. Currently, the vehicle not only starts but is running, which greatly facilitates any conservation project. The robustness of its 4x4 drive system underscores the technical capability of this model to face demanding terrains, while maintaining all original mechanical functionality.
INTERIOR
The cabin shows a very positive state of conservation in its main elements. The dashboard is pristine, with no cracks or damage, something not common in vehicles of this age. Likewise, the headliner upholstery is in very good condition, free of significant tears or stains. As for the seats, they require reupholstering to restore them to their original splendid condition; although they currently have protective covers, the upholstery change is necessary to bring the cabin up to the standards of a collectible vehicle.
DOCUMENTACIÓN
The vehicle is currently undergoing rehabilitation as a historic vehicle. The seller commits to handling the relevant procedures so that the buyer receives the truck’s documentation duly processed as a Historic Vehicle. This procedure adds significant value to the unit, as it facilitates its legal circulation and long-term preservation, ensuring that this piece of Pegaso’s history can be exhibited and enjoyed in compliance with current regulations.
RECOGIDA
The truck is located in Ponferrada (León), Spain. To facilitate logistics after the sale, the seller offers to assist in locating specialized transport companies that can manage the vehicle’s transfer from its current location to the destination chosen by the new owner, ensuring a smooth and professional delivery process.
OTRA INFORMACIÓN
Given the scarcity of surviving units of the 3140 model in 4x4 configuration, this Pegaso represents a unique opportunity for collectors of heavy vehicles or institutions dedicated to industrial heritage. Its ability to operate currently, combined with the integrity of its tanker and pump system featuring Cepsa iconography, positions it as an excellent base for a concours restoration or to be kept as a living testament to Spanish engineering from the 1980s."

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
