The Canon PowerShot Pro1 is a digital camera from Canon, announced in February 2004 and discontinued in the first quarter of 2006. The camera uses a Sony-developed 2/3 inch (17 mm) CCD image sensor with 8.3 megapixels, resulting in a usable image size of about 8.0 megapixels. At the time, it was the most expensive fixed-lens camera Canon sold and the top model in the PowerShot line. It was the first fixed-lens camera to bear the 'L' series designation, a label normally reserved for professional FD-, EF-, and RF-lenses for cameras with interchangeable lenses.
The camera features a tilting 2-inch color LCD with polycrystalline silicon (PCS) and a resolution of about 235,000 pixels, and an electronic color viewfinder (EVF) with the same resolution. The lens has a zoom range of 7.2 to 50.8 mm, corresponding to 28 to 200 mm in 35 mm format. The shutter has a maximum exposure time of 1/4000 second. The camera dimensions are 117.5 mm wide, 72 mm high, and 90.3 mm deep. It weighs 545 g.
The Canon PowerShot Pro1 is Canon's new top model in the PowerShot line of compact digital cameras. The Pro1 offers the most advanced specifications in the series, with an 8-megapixel CCD image sensor for leading resolution and an integrated Canon L (Luxury) lens. This lens, known for its interchangeable EF-S lenses for Canon EOS AF cameras, delivers superior image quality.
The L-lens of the PowerShot Pro1 takes full advantage of the 8-megapixel sensor resolution and is a world first for a compact digital camera. In addition to UD (ultra-low dispersion) and aspherical lens elements, the L-lens also contains a fluorite element. This effectively corrects various aberrations, including secondary spectrum (chro matic aberration), for exceptional image quality across the entire zoom range. Despite the compact size, the lens provides a 7x optical zoom (equivalent to 28-200 mm in 35 mm format), enabling a broad shooting range from wide-angle to telephoto. Moreover, despite the high zoom factor, the lens is exceptionally bright, with a maximum aperture of f/2.4-3.5. This enables fast shutter speeds in low light and produces a shallow depth of field.
