Ancient Caucasian Kazak rug “Eagle”, ca. 1880 – 197×127 cm – natural colors

Description:
Rare Caucasian Kazak “Eagle” / Chelaberd, knotted in the South Caucasus around 1870–1880.
The piece features the characteristic large “eagle” motif, geometric borders, and an intense color palette obtained with natural dyes (indigo, madder, ivory).

The weave is compact, wool soft and bright.
The rug is authentic, not recolored and not heavily restored, a quality increasingly difficult to find today.

Features:
• Origin: South Caucasus, Karabagh / Chelaberd area
• Period: late 19th century (ca. 1880)
• Dimensions: 197 × 127 cm
• Materials: wool on wool
• Dyeing: natural
• Condition: good; wear to the pile typical, edges and fringe to finish, no invasive restoration
• Iconography: typical “Eagle” motif with Caucasian rosettes and ancient borders
