Description from the seller
Illuminated sign, part of the furnishings of an old watch shop in Milan
Raised letters
History: The company was founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier by Auguste Agassiz under the name Agassiz & Compagnie, later adopting its current designation in 1867 after the owner purchased land in a place known as Les Longines where the inventor built his watch factory. The Longines name was adopted, together with the emblem of the winged hourglass, by Auguste Agassiz's nephew, Ernest Francillon (whose initials were registered in 1889 and for a long time appear inside the casebacks and are still used today as decoration on them). Francillon, the sister's son of Agassiz, also helped, around the 1860s, to turn the Maison into a true manufacture, capable of producing in-house all components of the watches
