Description from the seller

Victorian-era footstool, the padded top features a vertical striped motif alternating colors like dark red/bordeaux and beige/gold. The base is dark wood.

There is a border of small decorative metallic nails and, underneath, an ornamental floral and stylized vine pattern in gold or bronze. Everything is original and has not been restored; it probably had four studs as feet that are no longer present.

This is an antique upholstered stool. A mahogany ebonized English stool with an Art Nouveau taste, dating to the late Victorian period, around 1850.

A preventive treatment with insecticide was applied… the woodworm holes are old and no longer active.

A surprisingly striking ebony appearance with a wonderfully upholstered cushion.

It bears a vintage patina of great value. The Art Nouveau-style frame is characterized by a dark tone and a wavy-edge finish.

Robust cushions are traditionally upholstered with a cover in a precious fabric.

In grand Victorian interiors, a stool like this was a “mobile luxury.” Its heavy construction, with an apron without legs, suggests it was designed to be a jewel in a formal drawing room or a lady’s boudoir.
