Description from the seller
Wall crucifix with Christ in metal – 19th century
Important wall cross with strong visual and devotional impact, made of solid wood with a gilt-bronze crucified Christ applied in metal, datable to the end of the 19th century.
The work stands out for the elegance of the composition and for the plastic quality of the Christ figure, rendered with great anatomical sensitivity. The body is elongated, with soft and natural modeling of the volumes, highlighted by the dark patina of the metal that gives depth and a suggestive play of light. The face, inclined, conveys intense expressiveness, accentuating the pathos typical of 19th-century devotional production.
The cross, made of wood with a clearly visible grain and warm tones, presents a solid and proportioned structure, perfectly in harmony with the attached figure. On the back there is an original ring for hanging.
Iconographically, the work fits within the Christian tradition of representing the suffering Christ, with particular attention to naturalism and emotive rendering, characteristic of productions from the 19th to the early 20th century.
The dimensions are approximately 35.5 x 25.5 x 6.5 cm.
The condition is very good for its age: the metal patina is original and well preserved; the wood shows normal signs of time that attest to authenticity and lived history, without compromising the overall aesthetics. Small imperfections and marks are to be considered consistent with the object's age.
An object of great charm, ideal for both classic and contemporary interiors, perfect as a decorative or collectible element linked to sacred art.
