Description from the seller
Large and heavy Benin bronze Ifé-style statue - A statue representing the head of a queen mother.
Benin art is described as court art because it is closely associated with the king, known as the Oba. The tradition of Ifé bronze court objects dates back to the 14th century. The numerous heads and brass statues created by Benin artists were reserved for the exclusive use of the inhabitants of the royal palace and most often placed on altars consecrated by each new Oba. These rectangular-shaped altars were topped with heads, statues, carved ivory tusks, bells, and staffs. They served to commemorate an Oba and to contact his spirit.
Fast and protected shipping. Parcels are sent with a tracking number. Delivery in France in 1 to 3 days via Chronopost, 2 to 5 days across the European Union via Chronopost International. Delivery via Colissimo International to the rest of Europe and worldwide.
