Kota Songo
Metal, wood, the eyes seem to be bone
Height: 210mm + base 24mm
Width: 70mm
Depth: 55mm
Small reliquary of 21 cm in height excluding the base.
The Kota people live mainly to the east of Gabon and to the west of Congo.
Many Kota reliquary figures exist. They share common features: a face made of metal sheets inlaid on a wooden core and a handle shaped like a diamond.
The reliquary baskets or "bwété" were kept at the back of the chief's hut. The "bwété" were venerated by offerings and prayers whose aim was to bring prosperity to the clan. At the top of the "bwété" stood a reliquary statue with a body heavily stylized in the shape of a diamond and a head covered in metal.
Private collection.
The objects are shipped insured with tracking number.
Delivery in France from 1 to 3 days by Chronopost and 2 to 5 days in Europe. Worldwide delivery by Colissimo International.
