Oak five-panel chest, made circa 1850–1860 in the Netherlands, a faithful copy of a 17th‑century model.
Description from the seller
This chest is by craftsmen called a five-panel chest; it is a fixed model, so always about these proportions.
This model was made in the mid-17th century.
Refined, and yet with a certain simplicity or quiet balance.
The little arches on the panels we also see echoed in the so-called Utrecht arched cupboards.
Beautiful quarter-sawn oak used.
This chest, however, was made around 1850–1860—not in a neo-style—but as a faithful copy.
Very expertly made, just like its predecessor.
In this period there was again a demand for the 'good old times' of the 17th century.
You hardly see any difference with the 200-year-older predecessor, except that the oak of 17th-century furniture has become a bit more brittle.
Inside we see document trays on both the left and the right.
The left one can be locked.
