Orrefors - Vase - .925 silver - Vase with a silver neck

Vase with a solid silver neck (925/1000 sterling silver).

The spherical vase is labeled with a sticker Orrefors Sweden, and at the bottom there is also a hand-mark, etched, with the word Orrefors and a symbol. The silver neck of the vase is also marked with 925 Sterling and a lion.

Orrefors was founded in 1898 in the village of Orrefors, Småland (Sweden). The glassworks were located on the site of a former ironworks. In this first phase, Orrefors produced mainly functional glass such as bottles, lamp glass, window glass and technical glass. Artistic or decorative glass played only a minor role during this period.

The artistic breakthrough (1913–1930)
In 1913 Orrefors was taken over by Johan Ekman, which marked a strategic turning point. The focus shifted from purely industrial glass to high-quality crystal and art glass.

Orrefors continued to attract leading designers and became synonymous with "Swedish Modern" design, characterized by functionality, elegance and simplicity.
The glassworks produced everything from refined art glass to high-quality everyday glass (wine glasses, barware).

This vase (weighing 1090 grams) comes from this modern period. The condition of the vase is good; there are some spots on the silver that I did not want to polish away; that choice is left to the buyer. Furthermore, there is an air bubble in the glass as large as the tip of a pen, see photo. You can hardly see it, but you can feel it. I do not know how much 925 sterling silver is used in this vase. 925 stands for a 925/1000 silver content. Behind the etched Orrefors at the bottom of the vase, there appears to be a maker's monogram.
