Description from the seller

Extremely rare, dedication and signature on the frontispiece by Susan Meiselas (born 1948). Unique and not available on the Internet in a signed copy for the French-language edition. 116 pages and 71 full-page color photographs, edited by Claire Rosenberg with photo captions, texts and chronology. Very beautiful black cloth binding with the title embossed in white on the cover and on the back with an illustrated dust jacket. In excellent condition, virtually like new. The 1981 edition is referenced in Photobook by Parr & Badger, vol II, page 252, and in 802 photo books from the M + M collection Auer, p. 626. This 2008 edition in French, published by the prestigious American photography publisher Aperture, sold out quickly and has since seen several reissues. In excellent condition, virtually like new.

This edition was published for the 30th anniversary of the popular uprising and Meiselas’s first trip to Nicaragua. It includes a DVD of the film “Images of a Revolution,” in which Meiselas returns to the places she initially photographed and speaks with the inhabitants about the reality of post-revolutionary Nicaragua.
Susan Meiselas first traveled to Nicaragua in June 1978. She witnessed and documented the final year of the Somoza regime, which lasted four decades, the rise of popular resistance, the insurrection, and ultimately the overthrow of Somoza by the Sandinistas in 1979. Ten years later, Meiselas returned to Nicaragua to reconnect with some of the subjects of her earlier work— notably the Somoza National Guard, guerrillas and ordinary citizens—whose lives had been deeply affected by the outcome of the Contra war and the revolution. During the 1989 visit, she met few people whose hopes had been realized.

Susan Meiselas, born in Baltimore, Maryland, is an American photojournalist. She has been a member of Magnum Photos since 1976. Her first photographic series was a report on strippers at fairs in New England, while she was teaching photography in public schools in New York. At the time, no press outlet would publish her photographs. Nevertheless, Susan Meiselas published her work in the form of the book Carnival Strippers, Strip-tease forain in 1976. In the same year, she met the French photographer Gilles Peress and joined Magnum Photos in New York to devote herself entirely to photojournalism. Parallel to her professional commissions, the photographer develops personal projects. (Wikipedia)
