Description from the seller
Impressive matrimonially sized bedsheet of raw silk, satin and cotton from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, with ample dimensions. After all, old beds had different dimensions from modern ones, and mattresses were made to measure as was the related linen; in fact its measurements are 226 cm in width by 220 cm in length, with a 13 cm fringe added on three sides. On a modern bed with a classic 80 cm mattress, it reaches the ground, elegantly dressing the bed and giving it a sober, restrained tone.
The dominant color is a light orange, almost mustard on a warm background, easily matched to a home’s colors, and above all the bedspread is embellished with woven flower frames and hieroglyphs in violet, salmon, and gold.
It is all embroidery across the entire bedspread. A very beautiful color combination.
The photos are more explicit than words: it is embroidery and not printing—just look at the reverse side.
Splendid the straight fringe with a band of passementerie repeating the same colors. It is all embroidery with flowers and hieroglyphs on the headboard area, a large rosette in the center, in the corners and the lower part a series of circles containing a flower.
In the lower part there are geometric drawings.
A very distinctive bedspread because it is different from the usual damasks.
It’s part of my trousseau collection and, like many others, is in good condition and I presume little used given how many there were. It shows no stains, and the fringe is in good condition.
A separate note must be made about the imposing fringe that repeats the orange color and has a straight section of passementerie, followed by a straight fringe; overall height is 13 cm. The fringe runs along the three sides.
Overall, I would say it is a very particular bedspread, unlike the usual ones seen on the market. The fabric is splendid. In fact, those with floral patterns are usually damask and made of smooth silk. Its shade and its rich embroidery across the entire bedspread up to the fringe and on the part that covers the pillows, along with its dimensions, give it its true value.
The heavy, substantial fabric also makes the bed look perfectly dressed, while at the same time providing softness and elegance. An object from another era but still current for those who love the past. It could also be used as a table runner with embroidery on top. When something is beautiful, it always finds a use—also as a sofa cover given its size.
For shipping I use private couriers rather than the post office to arrive faster, with double packing and simpler communication.
Shipping costs vary depending on whether it is Europe, zone 1 or 2 (e.g., United Kingdom, Switzerland, Eastern European countries) or zone 3 (Norway, Malta, Cyprus) and the rest of the world.
Customs duties will be borne by the buyer.
