An exceptional example of highly detailed Chinese Shiwan mudware pottery, this brush pot (Bitong) dates to the late Qing Dynasty or early Republic Period (circa 1900–1930s). The Foshan/Canton region is renowned for this expressive, high-relief work.

The composition features a beautifully executed, psychological scene of two aged scholars (Mudmen) in profound conversation beneath a stylized, ancient pine tree. The figures' expressions are rendered with remarkable character and precision, a hallmark of skilled Shiwan masters. The glaze is a classic combination of vibrant Canton blues, browns, and green hues.
