Thirteen-piece Baccarat Cylindrique crystal service dating to circa 1900–1915, including six wine glasses, six amaro glasses and a decanter, all with guilloché engraving and mouth-blown crystal from France.
Description from the seller
Important Baccarat Crystal Service "Cylindrique" – Circa 1907
Refined top-quality crystal tableware, expression of the artisanal craftsmanship of the Baccarat manufactory. The model, named "Cylindrique", is a classic of early French production, here enhanced by a complex high-precision mechanical finishing.
Baccarat, France. Date: 1900 – 1915 (Belle Époque period). Model: Cylindrique Forms (Arts de la Table Catalog). Decoration: Guilloché Engraving (lathe engraving). The pattern features a double band: an upper interlaced Greek fret and a volute frieze ("enroulements") that wraps around the body of the goblet. Technique: Mouth-blown crystal. The guilloché engraving, typical of the early 1900s, requires micrometric precision to achieve perfect symmetry of the circular decorations.
Composition of the Service
The set consists of 13 coordinated pieces:
6 Wine Goblets: Characterized by the typical cylindrical cup with a hemispherical bottom, a slender stem with a connecting "bouton" and a flat circular foot. The size is ideal for aged wines or structured white wines.
1 Wine Bottle (Decanter):
6 cordial glasses, ideal for after-dinner spirits.
Drop-shaped form with a neck finished with a ring. The original stopper, hand-polished with diamond facets, completes the elegant silhouette and guarantees a perfect seal for aeration of the wine.
As with every Baccarat production before 1936, the pieces do not bear acid signatures. Attribution is certified by the presence of the model and decoration in the historical catalogs of the "Cristallerie de Baccarat" (see attached comparative table of Guilloché Engravings).
Condition: in good condition. The crystal retains its extraordinary light refraction and the famous metallic, persistent "ring" sound, a sign of a high lead content. No chipping or restorations detected.
Why this service is an investment:
Baccarat services with guilloché engraving are among the most sought after on the antique market because they represent the meeting point between classical aesthetics and the industrial technical innovation of the early 20th century. A set of this size (10 goblets + bottle) is a rarity, ideal for a high-representation table or as a central piece in a showcase of antique crystal.
Wine goblet height: 11.9 cm
Six cordial glasses height: 9 cm
Bottle height with stopper: 28.5 cm
Height without stopper: 23.5 cm.
The stopper is crystal, but a plastic coating has been applied to the base to prevent breaking the bottle mouth.
