Description from the seller

A refined example of late 17th-century craftsmanship, this Spanish brass socket candlestick, circa 1690, embodies the quiet elegance and enduring utility of Baroque-era domestic objects.

Rising with a poised and balanced silhouette, the candlestick features a classic socket form designed to securely hold a taper, its gently flared rim subtly accentuating the vertical line of the piece. The stem is beautifully turned, composed of a sequence of understated rings and a softly swelling baluster knop, demonstrating the restrained ornamentation characteristic of Spanish metalwork of the period.

The square base, grounded and architectural in presence, provides both stability and visual weight. Its surface bears the marks of time—soft wear, darkened edges, and a mellow, golden patina—each detail contributing to its authenticity and historical depth. These signs of age are not imperfections, but rather a testament to centuries of use, preservation, and quiet survival.

Crafted in solid brass, the candlestick reflects the warm glow of candlelight with a subdued richness, enhancing its sculptural form without ostentation. It speaks of a time when objects were made not only to serve a purpose, but to endure across generations.

This piece stands today not merely as a functional artifact, but as a tangible connection to late 17th-century Spain—an era of tradition, artistry, and timeless design.
