IDAM (Damm & Ladwig), a steel antique padlock from Germany dating to circa 1890–1910, with export mark and the two foxes emblem, complete with the original key and in good condition with small signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Rare antique “Two Foxes” padlock – IDAM (Damm & Ladwig), Germany, c. 1890–1910 – original key – export model
An exceptionally rare antique padlock produced by Damm & Ladwig (Velbert, Germany) under the export trademark IDAM “Two Foxes”, dating approximately from 1890 to 1910.
The lock features a complete original engraving:
“PATENTIERT IN DEUTSCHLAND – OESTERREICH & RUSSLAND”,
along with the characteristic emblem of two foxes and the initials D & L.
These locks were originally distributed across three major markets:
• The German Empire
• Austria-Hungary
• The Russian Empire (notably Baltic regions and trade cities such as Riga, St. Petersburg, and Odessa)
The explicit use of the word “Russland” confirms production before 1914, prior to World War I and the subsequent changes in trade marking conventions.
This specific export-marked variant is therefore considered particularly rare and highly desirable among collectors.
The padlock remains in completely untouched original condition – never cleaned, polished, or restored.
It displays a beautiful and authentic patina consistent with its age.
Complete, unaltered examples with the original key are extremely scarce. Comparable pieces rarely appear on the international market, making this a noteworthy collector’s item.
The mechanism moves normally.
Dimensions:
– Height: approx. 8.5 cm
– Diameter: approx. 5.5 cm
– Thickness: approx. 2.5 cm
– Key length: approx. 5 cm
A genuine and rare collector’s piece, suitable for advanced collections of antique locks or early industrial craftsmanship.
