Description from the seller
60s ESSO vintage sign in plexiglass with thermo-formed letters
Magnificent original ESSO sign from the 1960s, an authentic piece of industrial archaeology with strong visual impact for display and collecting. Made of translucent plexiglass, it features the iconic red ESSO letters enclosed in the classic blue oval, both raised in full relief with a substantial thickness of about 1 cm, a rare detail that adds depth, three-dimensionality, and extraordinary visual presence.
The manufacturing method is the traditional “thermo-formed” technique: the letters are not simply attached, but molded directly into the material by heat, creating soft, convex surfaces that are perfectly integrated with the structure. This technique, today almost extinct, is typical of professional signs from mid-20th century and gives the object an even greater historical value.
The overall piece is harmonious and elegant, with the milky white background highlighting the logo’s vivid colors, still surprisingly bright after decades. The translucent plexiglass allows, with minimal effort, to easily transform the sign into a splendid lighted sign: simply place a light source at the back to achieve a scenographic vintage effect, capable of recreating the atmosphere of era gas stations.
Perfect for decorating a loft, a premium garage, showroom, themed venues, or private collections, it is a decorative object of great charm, immediately placeable and ready to become the absolute focal point of any setting. A true symbol of automotive culture and postwar advertising design, very, very beautiful, with a strong character and a presence that does not go unnoticed.
