AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Elegant Savonarola chair by Florentine artists, made in the middle of the 20th century in Italy, specifically in the Tuscany region.
The Savonarola is a folding chair, closing like a book and composed of serpentine-curved elements and cross Xs. The backrest depicts the lily, Florentine symbol, while the armrests terminate with the effigies of lions.

The term "Savonarola" derives from the name Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), in whose era a chair of this type would still be preserved in his cell at the San Marco convent in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.

In generally good condition, normal signs of wear and age (see photos). Recently restored with anti-woodworm treatment and a finish to nourish the wood.
Dimensions: 95 cm height x 65 cm length.
