Description from the seller
Carved Volute Shell with Tyrannosaurus rex and Stegosaurus – Indonesia
Finely carved natural volute shell from Indonesia, where it was also expertly shaped by skilled artisans.
The composition features two distinct dinosaurs—a Tyrannosaurus rex and a Stegosaurus—emerging from an intricate network of foliage and flowing organic forms. The T. rex is rendered with an open jaw and defined dentition, while the Stegosaurus is recognizable by its characteristic dorsal plates, both carved with careful attention to texture and proportion.
The openwork carving creates depth and movement throughout the piece, allowing light to pass through the delicate lattice of leaves and branches. This interplay of solid and void enhances the three-dimensional effect and gives the sculpture a light, almost lace-like quality despite the material.
Natural shell tones—ranging from creamy ivory to warm peach and soft caramel—add warmth and subtle variation, complementing the detailed carving without overwhelming it.
The reverse side preserves the natural spiral and structure of the volute shell, maintaining a strong connection between the original form and the artistic intervention.
A distinctive decorative piece that combines traditional Indonesian craftsmanship with an unusual prehistoric theme, suitable for collectors or as a refined statement object.
Dimensions: 20.5 × 13 × 10 cm
