Description from the seller
ARCIMBOLDO by Roland Barthes. Twenty-second volume of the series "the signs of man" was printed in April 1978 at the Franco Levi printing works, under the direction of Franco Maria Ricci. Barthes' text is translated by Giovanni Mariotti. Also present is a very beautiful essay by Achille Bonito Oliva. The iconographic research and notes are by Corinna Ferrari.
The Milanese Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1526-1593) was one of the most original painters of all time. Creator of whimsicalities, metaphors, incredible inventions.
The types used are the Bodoni fonts. The handmade laid paper was specially prepared in a round form at the Miliani paper mills of Fabriano. This volume is No. 238 belonging to the first edition of three thousand numbered copies. Blue paper. Volume in the original case. Binding in black silk with titles impressed in gold and a photo-application on the cover.
The book was purchased by me as soon as it was released, then put back on the shelf; reopened now for the photographs. Like new, absolutely perfect for a collection.
