Description from the seller
One of the best-built Japanese receivers of all time, the item is recapped and works very well!
The clean, stark styling and sleek, low profile cabinet give the CR-800 a premium look and feel.
The Yamaha CR-800 is a highly regarded, mid-to-high-tier vintage stereo receiver from the "silver face" era. It is celebrated for its "Natural Sound" philosophy, offering a very clean, detailed, and linear sound signature rather than a warm, colored one.
Key Performance and Features;
Power Output: Rated conservatively at 45 watts per channel into 8 ohms, but tests from the era showed it often exceeded this, closer to 60 watts per channel at clipping.
Sound Signature: Clean, crisp, and open, with excellent transparency and "tight," controlled bass.
Tuner Section: Exceptionally high-performing, borrowing technology from Yamaha's top-tier CT-7000 tuner. It is known for excellent selectivity and sensitivity, making it ideal for urban areas with crowded radio bands.
Variable Loudness: Features a distinctive variable loudness dial, often cited as one of the best loudness compensation systems for low-volume listening.
Phono Stage: The phono preamplifier is highly regarded for its sound quality.
