Purma Special (Purma Camera Ltd., London) distributed by R.F. Hunter
Designed by the artist Tom Purvis and inventor Alfred Croger Mayo, the Purma Special (a combination of PURvis and MAyo) is regarded as an unparalleled camera. It proves to be a genuine curiosity and an exceptional collectible!
Production period: 1937 - 1951 (except for the war years)
Film format: 127 roll film with 16 square images 31 x 31 mm
Lens: Beck Fixfocus Anastigmat 6.3/57 mm
Shutter: gravity-controlled shutter with 3 speeds; when the camera is held horizontally = 1/150; vertically: about 1/25 ("slow") and rotated 180° about 1/450 ("fast"); see also the labeling on the rear viewfinder window.
The camera body is made of Bakelite and features a Deco-style housing. The typeface on the nameplate also dates from that era.
Condition:
The delicate Bakelite case is intact and in very good condition (see photos). The lens is clear and free of scratches, and the shutter fires.
The photos are an integral part of the camera description and its condition.
