Description from the seller
Elegant oval pressed glass cheese bell in amber-tinted colored glass, accompanied by its matching tray, a hallmark of European Art Deco production around 1930–1940. Unmarked, this piece sits within the utilitarian, high-quality production disseminated in France and Belgium during the interwar period, where pressed glass allowed for robustness, aesthetics, and accessibility. The overall design is particularly representative of the geometric vocabulary of the era.
The oval tray, with a slightly raised edge, features discreet side handles integrated into the mass. It presents a structured relief decoration combining concentric lines and stylized motifs, organized with great precision. The bell, of generous proportion, takes a domed form topped by a full-arch handle, ergonomic and elegant. Its surface is entirely adorned with a relief pattern of regular hexagons, forming a honeycomb network highly characteristic of the 1930s. This motif catches the light and produces subtle plays of transparency in the warm, homogeneous amber hue of the glass.
The set is in good condition. The glass retains clear clarity and satisfactory shine. The center of the tray shows light wear with corrosion and a frosted appearance, consistent with long-term use. The bell has two small localized dings on the rim, discreet and without structural impact. The overall piece remains perfectly presentable and functional.
This type of object fits within the industrial glassmaking production of the interwar period, a time when many European manufactories developed utilitarian pieces inspired by Art Deco principles: simplification of forms, geometric decoration, and emphasis on the material. Following in the footsteps of major glass centers such as Val-Saint-Lambert or French glassworks, these unmarked productions attest to skilled craftsmanship and wide diffusion, contributing to the modern aesthetics of tableware in the 1930s.
Dimensions are:
- Height: 16 centimeters,
- Length: 28 centimeters,
- Width: 19.5 centimeters,
- Total weight: 1500 grams.
The bell and its tray will be carefully packed and the set will be shipped promptly in a secure manner. In-store pickup and combined delivery are available. The photos are part of the description.
