LAREX LANGENDORF watch with a Langendorf 15 Rubis movement, 15 jewels, and a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, dating to the late 1930s–1940s, in a chrome-plated case with wear and in good original condition.
Description from the seller
This one is a bit more interesting historically than the first.
What you’ve got
• Brand on dial: LAREX
• Movement maker: Langendorf (printed as “Langendorf 15 Rubis”)
• Jewels: 15 jewels → typical mid-grade Swiss mechanical movement
• Layout: Small seconds at 6 o’clock (subdial)
• Era: Likely late 1930s to 1940s
• Case: Chrome-plated or nickel over base metal (you can see wear through the plating)
About the maker
Langendorf Watch Company (LWC) was a legitimate Swiss manufacturer—not luxury tier, but well-respected for reliable movements. They supplied movements to many smaller brands (like Larex).
“Larex” itself is likely a private-label or export brand, meaning:
• The movement matters more than the name
• It was probably sold through regional retailers
Condition notes (important)
From the photo:
• Dial has heavy patina and aging
• Hands show corrosion
• Case has plating wear
• Crystal is scratched
This is normal for a watch of this age, but it affects value.
Value (realistic range)
• $50 – $150 USD as-is
• Possibly $150–$250 if:
• Running well
• Serviced
• Original parts intact
Is it worth restoring?
Here’s the honest take:
• Financially? Usually no. A full service can cost more than the watch’s value.
• Historically / personally? Yes—this is a genuine pre/post-war Swiss mechanical piece, which has character.
What’s nice about it
• True vintage (not 70s mass-market like the first one)
• Classic small seconds design
• Legit Swiss movement lineage (Langendorf)
