Description from the seller
Panerai. by Simon De Burton, Giampiero Negretti, Flammarion Éditeur.
Italian-language edition richly illustrated, First edition, October 29, 2008.
192 pages, Dimensions 33.7 x 4.1 x 33.9 cm
ISBN-13: 978-8861307407
Rare collectible book, of great elegance, with hard cover, dust jacket and protective case, in perfect condition, never used.
Supplier to the Italian Navy and specializing in high-precision mechanisms, Officine Panerai perfected in the thirties the world’s first diving watches, waterproof up to 650 feet and luminescent. Giovanni Panerai, founder of the company, chose for his watches a large 47 mm case, a black dial (to make the luminous hands and numerals underwater as legible as possible) and a movement supplied by Rolex, the best and most robust of the era, destined to be used in a military wristwatch. Waterproof thanks to a 15 mm-thick stainless steel case, the watch featured a long oiled perforated leather strap that allowed it to be worn on the wrist of a diver’s suit.
In 1997 the Richemont group (Vendome) acquired Officine Panerai, the small Italian company almost unknown outside the military milieu, and since then Panerai has become an iconic phenomenon of haute horology worldwide that has won the hearts and stirred the imagination of collectors.
The volume, published in 2008, explores Panerai’s rich history and traces the brand’s evolution from its founding in Florence in 1860.
The work accompanies readers on an extraordinary journey into the world of luxury watchmaking, where technical mastery, passion and meticulous craftsmanship merge to create timeless masterpieces.
A reference book on the iconic Panerai watches, unmissable for enthusiasts, specialists in the field and prestigious watch collectors, richly illustrated, celebrating the fusion of form and function that characterizes every Panerai creation.
The original photographs by Eric Sauvage and Nils Herrmann, commissioned for the volume, highlight the exclusive technical aspects of Panerai models, with special sections dedicated to precision instruments invented for the Italian Navy and to international collectors.
